Couples
I provide couple and marital therapy to couples from diverse backgrounds, on a variety of treatment issues. I do necessary “tune-ups” that can consist of conducting marriage check-ups to determine the health of the relationship, enhancing intimacy, improving communication skills, navigating normal transitions such as marriage and parenthood, dealing with common life troubles like financial problems, accepting and overcoming different personalities and philosophies, and more. I also address sexual problems and sexual dysfunctions, infidelity, substance abuse, intimate partner violence, a host of problems that potentially lead to divorce. I also help couples to navigate through a divorce in ways that minimize the harm to the ex-partners and their children and families.
Families and Children
I provide therapy to families of all backgrounds, often focusing on issues such as parenting, school and academic problems, communication, family relationships, ethnic, and cultural factors, and child behavior and social/emotional problems. I help families to learn how to cope successfully with their children’s disorders, such as conduct disorder, ADHD, learning disabilities, anxiety and depression, pervasive developmental disorders, enuresis and encopresis, and more. I treat children that have been sexually abused or otherwise harmed or neglected.
Individuals
Common emphases in individual therapy include depression, anxiety, and adjustment problems relating to life’s transitions, changes, and stresses, including racial, ethnic, and cultural factors. I also conduct therapy with those who have personality disorders, suicidal thoughts and behaviors, alcohol and drug abuse and dependence, and more.
